On July 10<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup>, 2015, the Novato Theater Company opened the hit musical <\/span>New Wrinkles<\/span><\/strong> by Rita Abrams, Gerald Nachman, and Morris Bobrow<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Morris Bobrow actually directed this production, and Rita Abrams was the piano accompanist. The very talented cast included\u00a0Erika Alstrom, Nan Ayers, Mark Clark, Paula Gianetti,\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>and<\/span> Kit Grimm.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This hilarious and heartfelt musical revue serves up the pains, perils, and poignancy of aging in clever and crowd-pleasing sketches and songs.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Topics include high school reunions, finances, plastic surgery, aches and pains, sexual enhancement, hair loss, and (of course) <\/span>new wrinkles<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gerald Nachman and his collaborators Morris Bobrow and Rita Abrams first concocted this musical comedy revue in 2002.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>It was built around the horrors and humiliations of aging.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>This show, which has since had nearly 20 productions in the USA and Canada, includes sketches by Nachman about a mid-aged couple on a date who get increasingly<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>sexually excited as they compare medical conditions; a flirtatious macho guy in a restaurant resisting a cute waitress\u2019 urging that he order from the \u201csenior\u201d menu; a married couple who realize that the moment their daughter leaves the house for college they have nothing to say to each other; a TV commercial for a dating service that makes you feel younger by hooking you up with little old ladies; and two old friends who meet<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>on a street corner for lunch but can\u2019t remember why.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Abrams\u2019 and Bobrow\u2019s songs include numbers about plastic surgery, a fantasy doctor who advises you to eat more cheese burgers and hot fudge sundaes; a man who realizes every authority figure is younger than he is; and a woman who laments that she has moved<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>from a \u201cMiss\u201d to a \u201cMa\u2019m.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>An outstanding song by Abrams performed with dignity by <\/span>Erika Alstrom <\/span><\/strong>and<\/span> Nan Ayers<\/span><\/strong> was \u201cWoman in her Prime,\u201d a real show-stopper!<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The simple set was designed by <\/span>Mark Clark<\/span><\/strong> with 2 chairs stage left and stage right, with 2<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>stools on a riser center stage.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The effective lighting was by <\/span>Halina<\/span><\/strong>, with <\/span>Sandi Rubay<\/span><\/strong> on the Sound Design.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The brilliant choreography was by <\/span>Sherry Hines<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The whole cast contributed to the original costumes.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
