NTC Stages <\/span>Unnecessary Farce
\n<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong>As the Perfect Way to Usher in the Summer
\n<\/span><\/strong>and End a Wonderful Season<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Unnecessary Farce <\/span><\/em><\/strong>is an award-winning stage comedy by <\/span>Paul Slade Smith<\/span><\/strong> that combines all the elements of classic farce with a contemporary American plot. Also, <\/span>Unnecessary Farce<\/span><\/em> is an excellent Directorial debut at NTC for acting veteran <\/span>Johnny DeBernard<\/span><\/strong>, assisted by <\/span>Kim Bromley<\/span><\/strong>. Cheers<\/span> to Johnny DeBernard for his outstanding sense of comic timing!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Set in the adjoining motel rooms \u2013 styled with perfect motel appearance by Set Designer <\/span>Mark Clark<\/span><\/strong> and expertly costumed by J<\/span>ohn Clancy <\/span><\/strong>and Janice Deneau<\/strong>,\u00a0the show opens with <\/span>Matt Farrell<\/span><\/strong>\u2019s affable Eric Sheridan struggling to put on his pants (one of many scenes of hilariously half-dresssed actors). Eric and his partner, Officer Billie Dwyer (<\/span>Ashley Kimball<\/span><\/strong>) have set up a video monitor to catch Mayor Meekly (<\/span>Hugh Campion<\/span><\/strong>) confessing embezzlement to his new (sexy) accountant Karen Brown (<\/span>Amber Kernohan<\/span><\/strong>) \u2013 but throw in neurotic security guard Agent Frank (beautifully portrayed by <\/span>Ben Ortega<\/span><\/strong>)<\/span> and a bumbling Scottish murderer Todd (<\/span>Richard Steele<\/span><\/strong>), and things go predictably awry.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Then there\u2019s the unassuming Mrs. Mary Meekly (<\/span>Marilyn Hughes<\/span><\/strong>) who is concerned for her husband\u2019s whereabouts and well-being.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>A<\/strong><\/span>shley Kimball<\/span><\/strong>, playing the awkward gun-fearing cop on her first real assignment, is the show\u2019s best asset. In many scenes she is simply sitting on the motel bed and watching the action unfold in the next room but, with amazement, her understated comic-timing is a show stealer, especially when paired with Matt Farrell\u2019s timid, <\/span>equally<\/span><\/span> inept<\/span><\/em> Police Officer\u2013in-crime.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0Richard Steele commands our
\nattention as an impressive, bagpipe-
\nplaying-criminal\u00a0with a booming
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Scottish <\/span>accent, and the moments
\nspent lost\u00a0in translating are some of
\nthe\u00a0funniest in the show.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Written by former-Chicagoan Paul \u00a0Slade Smith, <\/span>Unnecessary Farce \u00a0<\/span><\/em>contains a handful of sharply-\u00a0written jokes, but the\u00a0majority \u00a0of\u00a0the humor is physical:
\nthe\u00a0sy<\/span><\/span>nchronized door slamming
\nand rough and tumble bedroom
\n<\/span><\/span>romps.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>Unnecessary Farce
\n<\/span><\/em>certainly is not\u00a0\u201cfood for thought,\u201d
\nbut its\u00a0unsophisticated charm is a good taste of <\/span>unabashedly crude comedy done right<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Unnecessary Farce<\/span><\/em> is a fun, light-hearted play and a worthy effort by the NTC. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Unnecessary Farce<\/span><\/em><\/strong> began its run May 22 and will be performed through June 14, 2015, at <\/span>Novato Theater Company Playhouse<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span>5420 Nave Drive, Suite C, Novato 94949<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
