Also, <\/span><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Unnecessary Farce<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> is an excellent Directorial debut at NTC for acting veteran <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Johnny DeBernard<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">, assisted by <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Kim Bromley<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Cheers<\/span> to Johnny DeBernard for his outstanding sense of comic timing!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Set in the adjoining motel rooms \u2013 styled with perfect motel appearance by Set Designer <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Mark Clark<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> and expertly costumed by J<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">ohn Clancy <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">and <strong>Janice Deneau<\/strong>,\u00a0the show opens with <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Matt Farrell<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u2019s affable Eric Sheridan struggling to put on his pants (one of many scenes of hilariously half-dresssed actors). Eric and his partner, Officer Billie Dwyer (<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Ashley Kimball<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">) have set up a video monitor to catch Mayor Meekly (<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Hugh Campion<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">) confessing embezzlement to his new (sexy) accountant Karen Brown (<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Amber Kernohan<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">) \u2013 but throw in neurotic security guard Agent Frank (beautifully portrayed by <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Ben Ortega<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">)<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> and a bumbling Scottish murderer Todd (<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Richard Steele<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">), and things go predictably awry.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Then there\u2019s the unassuming Mrs. Mary Meekly (<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Marilyn Hughes<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">) who is concerned for her husband\u2019s whereabouts and well-being.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"><a href=\"https:\/\/forallevents.com\/reviews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/UF01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-18865\" src=\"https:\/\/forallevents.com\/reviews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/UF01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"605\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/forallevents.com\/reviews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/UF01.jpg 960w, https:\/\/forallevents.com\/reviews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/UF01-300x152.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 605px) 100vw, 605px\" \/><\/a><strong>A<\/strong><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">shley Kimball<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">, playing the awkward gun-fearing cop on her first real assignment, is the show\u2019s best asset. In many scenes she is simply sitting on the motel bed and watching the action unfold in the next room but, with amazement, her understated comic-timing is a show stealer, especially when paired with Matt Farrell\u2019s timid, <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">equally<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> inept<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> Police Officer\u2013in-crime.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/forallevents.com\/reviews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/11163135_780965652001550_3514527133848996677_o-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\">\u00a0Richard Steele commands our<br \/>\nattention as an impressive, bagpipe-<br \/>\nplaying-criminal\u00a0with a booming<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\">Scottish <\/span>accent, and the moments<br \/>\nspent lost\u00a0in translating are some of<br \/>\nthe\u00a0funniest in the show.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0Written by former-Chicagoan Paul \u00a0Slade Smith, <\/span><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Unnecessary Farce \u00a0<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">contains a handful of sharply-\u00a0written jokes, but the\u00a0majority \u00a0of\u00a0the humor is physical:<br \/>\nthe\u00a0sy<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">nchronized door slamming<br \/>\nand rough and tumble bedroom<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">romps.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Unnecessary Farce<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">certainly is not\u00a0\u201cfood for thought,\u201d<br \/>\nbut its\u00a0unsophisticated charm is a good taste of <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">unabashedly crude comedy done right<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Unnecessary Farce<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> is a fun, light-hearted play and a worthy effort by the NTC. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">(Images courtesy of NTC)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Unnecessary Farce<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> began its run May 22 and will be performed through June 14, 2015, at <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Novato Theater Company Playhouse<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">, <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">5420 Nave Drive, Suite C, Novato 94949<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Order tickets <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">online<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> at <\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.novatotheatercompany.org\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">www.NovatoTheaterCompany.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> (print out your ticket from the confirmation email).<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">If you are unable to print out your ticket, your name will be on a list at the Box Office at your scheduled time.
