#000000;font-size: medium\">The New Year gets off to a great start at RVP with the romantic comedy <\/span><strong><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Impressionism<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> by Michael Jacobs and directed by Billie Cox. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Impressionism<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> raises the question: Does art imitate life, or does life imitate art?<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">The playwright, Michael Jacobs has written for Broadway and television. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">For many years, Director Billie Cox has been a director, playwright, composer, lyricist, and sound designer.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">The setting by Malcolm Rodgers is a small art gallery of Katharine Keenan (<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Mary Ann Rodgers<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">) where Thomas Buckle (<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Tom Reilly<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">) has been employed for the past two years.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Thomas brings Katharine coffee each morning and tells her his stories.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">These stories lead to flashbacks that have led to the present state as well as a relationship to the art that hangs in the gallery.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Both people use the gallery as a \u201chiding place\u201d to separate themselves from a world which has wounded them \u2013 Thomas, by his time as a world-traveling photojournalist, and Katharine, by many failed relationships.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/forallevents.com\/reviews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/16312897605_0213fc2c15_z.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-16239\" src=\"https:\/\/forallevents.com\/reviews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/16312897605_0213fc2c15_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"575\" height=\"260\" style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">In <\/span><strong><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Impressionism<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">, we\u2019re informed by artwork wonderfully projected onto the gallery\u2019s rear wall.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Katharine can\u2019t bring herself to sell her merchandise, and Thomas is a photographer who seems to be suffering from the photographer\u2019s version of \u201cwriter\u2019s block.\u201d<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">In the end, the audience is taken on a journey through which a love story shows Katharine and Thomas, that, just like the impressionist art on the walls, the more they step away from the canvas of their lives up to now, the more they realize their future together might hold more depth than the past that has led them to each other.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">The two lead actors \u2013 Tom Reilly and Mary Ann Rodgers<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">\u00a0\u2013 <\/span>give professional performances.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">They\u2019re supported by an outstanding cast, including <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Ellen Brooks<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">, as Julia Davidson; <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Phillip Percy Williams<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> as Chiambuane, and also as Mr. Linder;<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0 <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Dale Camden<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> as Douglas Finch; <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">James Montellato<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> as Ben Joplin; <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Alana Samuels<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> as Nicole Halladay; and <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Elena Gnatek<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> (Juliana Postrel and also alternating as young Katharine).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Impressionism<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> is a gentle romantic comedy which weaves a spell that will remain with you long after you\u2019ve seen the show.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Impressionism<\/span><\/strong><\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> runs January 16 through February 15, 2015, with performances on Thursdays at 7:30pm; Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm; and Sundays at 2:00pm.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size:
