EDITOR\u2019S NOTE: Woody Weingarten, author and longtime journalist, is a regular contributor to forallevents.com, Local News Matters and Bay City News. To promote his children\u2019s book written with his granddaughter\/co-author and illustrated by Joe Marciniak, he decided the only reporter he could trust with the Q&A was himself.\u00a0<\/em>Most reviewers, even politicians who desperately clung to office by yelling \u201cfake news,\u201d admit his faux interrogation is spot on.<\/p>\n

WOODY THE INTERVIEWER: Why\u2019d you two write this whimsical book?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannah:<\/strong> I thought I could have fun working with Grandpa.<\/p>\n

Woody:<\/strong> Yep, fun.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your four-part story about?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannah:<\/strong> A wizard grandfather and two mischief-makers, his fairy granddaughter and her best friend, another fairy. It has spells and a magic carpet, too.<\/p>\n

Woody: <\/strong>Yep, it\u2019s magical.<\/p>\n

Is it based on your real-life relationship?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannah:<\/strong> No, I don\u2019t do spells.<\/p>\n

Woody:<\/strong> Yep, which is good, \u2019cause I can\u2019t\u00a0undo<\/em>\u00a0spells.<\/p>\n

What\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>does<\/strong>\u00a0happen in <\/em>Grampy and His Fairyzona Playmates?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannah:<\/strong> Oh, an 8-year-old fairy wins the unicorn racing championships. Baby chicks sing jazz instead of cheeping. The sorcerer makes robot characters less scary. And the girls stop \u201cthunder-and-lightning storms, floods, earthquakes and tornadoes all over.\u201d<\/p>\n

Woody:<\/strong> Yep, a lot of fun stuff.<\/p>\n

Did the fact there\u2019s 70 years between you get in your way?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannah:<\/strong> Nope, we\u2019ve really bonded. Besides, I have my friends, and he\u2019s got his.<\/p>\n

Woody:<\/strong> Yep.<\/p>\n

Did you and Grampa whoop it up when you were little?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannah:<\/strong> Well, he\u2019d make up stories when we played together on the floor with my dollhouse, tiny plastic horses and teeny people figurines.<\/p>\n

Woody:<\/strong> Yep, and Hannah would always add funny action.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>If your book took only several months to write when Hannah was 8, why more than five years to publish?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannah:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know. Grandpa was dealing with the details.<\/p>\n

Woody:<\/strong> Yep, well, techno glitches, human errors and 2,149 tweaks delayed things.<\/p>\n

Who can read <\/em>Grampy and His Fairyzona Playmates?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannah:<\/strong> It\u2019s aimed at 6- to 10-year-olds, but grandparents can read it to kids. So can parents. Or other relatives. Or friends. Or neighbors. Or, in fact,\u00a0anybody<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Woody:<\/strong> Yep.<\/p>\n

Where can I buy\u00a0the book?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannah:<\/strong> Through my Grandpa\u2019s new website\u00a0woodyweingarten.com<\/a>, at Amazon, at your local bookstore, at Barnes & Noble, at Apple \u2014 pretty much everywhere books are sold.<\/p>\n

Woody:<\/strong> Yep, nearly everywhere.<\/p>\n

Do you two intend to collaborate on another children\u2019s fantasy any time soon?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannah:<\/strong> Not in the near future. Although we talk and get together a lot, I\u2019m busy creating a series of videos for TikTok and going to school.<\/p>\n

Woody:<\/strong> Nope, not now. Our bond is bonded permanently so I\u2019m comfortable working on a new solo book aimed at adults, The Roving<\/em> I, and a second edition of my first, Rollercoaster.<\/em> Admittedly, I do hope to totally avoid techno glitches and human errors for both \u2014 and require no more than 1,075 tweaks.<\/p>\n
